I have this chat that refresh’s like every 5 seconds but it gets annoying. I was wondering if instead of it refreshing every 5 seconds if i could get it to refresh every time someone enters a message. If theres a way, please post the code for it, Thanks, The chat is coded with mostly Javascript. Please help, Thanks.

I am planning to hire a more advanced web designer to design a custom chat system for my website and I plan to use one of the freelance websites. I need an idea on how much to offer to get this completed. I am wanting some advanced features, like private messaging to users in chat, ability to post pictures in the chat room, ability to select fonts and font colors, template system, etc. How much would you suggest I offer to get this done?

Each world has a maximum of 20 people, and you can just chat to them. Would it be possible/appropriate to do this using php and databases? Or would I have to use java or something?

I want to insert a forum and a livce chat into it. I know how to do the forum but not the chat. How would I do this besides creating the code from scratch?

I have a decent knowledge of websites, but would like peoples opinions on what I should use to create a chat room, so I can nerd up on what I need to know. If anyone could point me in the right direction, that’s be great.

Right now I have Java chat rooms, but people don’t respond well to it. Someone mentioned Flash, but what would be the best other than those two.

I found irc on wiki but isnt web based chat the same thing? Or is it like comparing a forum to a instant messenger?

My youth group is trying to create a website. It needs to have forums, a chat room (with webcam video), blogs and Facebook-style profiles. (For the profiles, we don’t want it identical to Facebook, we just want you to have profile pictures and the ability to write on it.) The problem is, we don’t even know how to let someone register for an account or log-in to one. Help!
